Halfy Hour Serves Up Sweet Deals

Meet Viktor Sinzig and Natalie Flechsig, whose new mobile app, Halfy Hour, just launched in the Bay Area. It alerts consumers about restaurant and bakery food available for half price. Food businesses often discard items that aren’t sold by the end of the day, even though the food is still good. Using Halfy Hour, business owners can let nearby customers know exactly which foods are available for half price during certain hours. Customers pay in advance through the app. Sinzig and Flechsig conceived of Halfy Hour as a way to reduce food waste while also providing bargains for consumers and extra income for restaurant owners. Flechsig says that as a UC Berkeley graduate, the issue of food insecurity among UC students is an issue close to her heart.

Local eateries taking part include Phil’s Sliders, PIQ Bakery, Red Tomato Pizza, Urbann Turbann, and many others. Some restaurants are also using Halfy Hour to announce special deals offering less than a 50% reduction. Visit your iphone app store to find Halfy Hour. Info: here
