What is it about fish tacos?

Our publisher can’t go anywhere that has fish tacos on the menu and not order them.

“I love the way the fried batter and the sliced cabbage give two kinds of crunch, and that bit of spicy heat always makes my day,” she says, “however I’ve learned to bypass the Asian fusion renditions . . . I mean, if it’s shrimp tempura, fine, just give me some chopsticks and dipping sauce, but don’t put it on a tortilla, for pete’s sake.”

When our staff artist Margo Rivera-Weiss suggested mapping the locations of some of the East Bay’s best of this genre, we put out a call on social media, and Madam Publisher started scurrying around to try readers’ suggestions, sometimes having half a dozen fish tacos in one day.

“I never wearied of them,” she says. “I even ate them when I went out of town to see if anybody else’s measured up to ours.”
If you love fish tacos, too, maybe you will check out the places on Margo’s map and also let us know if you have favorites we could add to our online list.  Post a photo of your fave on Instagram with #eebfishtacos, tell us about it on Facebook, or send a plain ol’ email to editor(at)edibleeastbay.com.
