A Holiday Pie Party
Recipes, photos, and videos by chef/photographer Judy Doherty
Don’t let the pandemic ruin your holidays! Baking pie will make your house smell delicious as you channel your granny and all those good times with friends and family in years past.
Master these three recipes with the help of expert chef and photographer Judy Doherty. As she shoots at her studio/kitchen in Castro Valley, Judy also makes accelerated-action videos that you can watch from links included with each recipe below.
These three recipes address three levels of skill —or should we say, ambition, since we all know that practice makes perfect.
The easiest is the Winter Squash Pie, which can be done using a pre-made pie shell that you fill with a simple pureed squash custard. We also include instructions for a Homemade Pie Crust.
The Chocolate Silk Pie is also quite easy, but you’ll be making the crust, the filling, and a chocolate topping.
Bakers looking for a challenge can tackle the traditional Tart Tatin.
Whichever you choose, make a few of these to delight your pandemic pod now, and you’ll be ready to entertain your wider crowd once we all get back together again.
