At Edible East Bay, we admire Alice Medrich for her James Beard Award–winning cookbooks, chocolate expertise, and those lovely former Cocolat shops that we used to frequent in Berkeley. For her third act, Alice has been turning toward environmental activism by helping to create new gluten-free and vegan baking mixes with local upcycled ingredient company Renewal Mill. Since she also likes to support organizations that get out the vote, she has found an opportunity to bring it all together in an event called New Ways with Chocolate.

On Sunday, April 7, 3:30–5:30pm, the lucky folks who nabbed a spot will get to watch Alice demonstrate baking techniques and taste some superb vegan chocolates and baked goods while learning how to bake simple gluten-free and vegan recipes using Renewal Mill’s line of new upcycled flours that reduce our impact on the environment while keeping valuable nutrition from going to waste.

Tickets are available with a $95 minimum per person donation. All proceeds from this event go to LOUD for Tomorrow Action Fund*.

The event takes place at an outdoor venue in Oakland’s Montclair neighborhood (address provided upon donation). Seating is limited, so don’t delay! Click here for full invitation.

*Founded in 2018, LOUD for Tomorrow is a grassroots youth-led nonprofit based in Delano, California, building power to transform schools and communities through civic engagement, advocacy, and community healing. It trains young people of color to lead local issue campaigns with an environmental- and electoral-justice lens, registering and motivating voters.
