Slow Food East Bay welcomes chefs from Bhutan and Burma, who offer a sampling of their cooking with dishes like wild mushroom curry, fish noodle soup, sel roti, and more. Hear their stories, which describe the experience of being driven away from one’s homeland due to ethnicity and the ways in which that experience breaks connections to the past. The evening’s beneficiary is Oakland Bloom, a nonprofit that provides educational training and hands-on support for aspiring chef entrepreneurs. Cost: Sliding scale $45–$85. Info and tickets: here
