The call is out for a poster design to represent the Mycological Society of San Francisco’s 50th Golden Jubilee Revival Fungus Fair. Art submissions are due by September 22, and the winner will be announced in late October. The contest winner will be awarded $250.

After a three-year hiatus due to Covid and other issues, the fair is set for a “revival” on January 23, 2022. Its theme celebrates the “wood-wide web,” which is how mycorrhizae connect trees with nearly every life form in the landscape, exchanging nutrients and extending access to moisture underneath the soil. In this way, fungi play an important role in forest regeneration after fire as well.

Of course, the fair also shares the pleasures of fungi as food. Organizers are striving to represent a more diverse set of people involved in mycology and mushroom hunting as they work to broaden the scope of the fair.

In creating the design, it’s preferred, though not required, that artists include the event title and show some dimensionality in their design. Artwork that is also reproducible in black and white is preferred. Please leave space at the bottom of the poster for sponsorship logos. The poster image will be reproduced in postcard format, as a poster, and as a T-shirt design. Credit will be included in any reproduction of image.
