September 25 is Tomato Day at Smith Family Farm in Brentwood. It’s also the official opening to the farm’s Pumpkin Patch, which runs through October 31.

“We invite guest chefs—often ones that have used our tomatoes for many years in their restaurants—to sample some of their favorite dishes, and we have an heirloom sampling table so people can see that no two tomatoes are the same,” says Shirley Smith.

Other highlights on Tomato Day include a cherry tomato u-pick, live music, and local food vendors selling olive oil and preserves.

The farm’s Pumpkin Patch is a family favorite through Halloween (October 31), and each day, the whole farm is buzzing with an animal area, pumpkin gallery, herb garden and labyrinth, barn exhibit, insect observation area, Miwok village, children’s play area, autumn trail/corn maze, and of course … a pumpkin patch. There are lots of photo ops and scarecrows, craft vendors, and a country store.
