Covid delayed the community event celebrating the five-year anniversary of the Lamorinda Agricultural Viticulture Area (AVA), but we’re pleased as pinot to share the news of this celebration, which goes one year better on May 1, 2022, noon-6pm, at Wine Thieves in Lafayette.
The May 1 ticketed public tasting event celebrates Lamorinda wines and wines made by Lamorinda wine makers. You’ll enjoy a range of wines from Thal Vineyards (Lafayette), Raisin d’Etre (Lafayette), Meadow View Winery (Orinda), Deer Hill Vineyards (Lafayette), Los Arabis Vineyards (Moraga), and Tarabrook Vineyards (Orinda).
At Edible East Bay, we clearly remember the AVA’s founding, since we reported on it in this Fall 2016 story.

David Hicks, incoming president of the Lamorinda Wine Growers Association explains, “The Lamorinda area has a deep history in wine making with the first grapes grown in the region over 150 years ago. Our rich Lamorinda soil helps produce grapes deep in color and intense in flavor, key to making great wines. We are proud that many of the wines produced in the AVA have won awards including Contra Costa Gold, San Francisco Gold, San Francisco Best of Class, Winemakers Magazine Gold and many of these will be available for tasting at our May 1 event.”
The tasting event will be complemented with food trucks offering British pub fare from The Governor and decadent grilled cheese sandwiches from The Grilled Cheez Guy. Ticket entry to the event is not required to purchase food.
Says Hicks, “We hope that our next anniversary celebration will take place in Local Vines, our tasting room that’s under construction just two doors down from Wine Thieves. Local Vines, and its partner Germinate Kitchen, are scheduled for a late 2022 opening and will be core to our community.”
