“I often feel like I am alone in my thoughts, ideas, hopes, and wishes for a better world,” says beekeeper and activist Sarah Red-Laird. “My week at EcoFarm reminded me that I’m part of a movement containing some of the brightest people on the planet, and now they are only an email or phone call away.”

During the years of the Covid pandemic, we all became more acquainted with the importance of human connection as a basic need. That desire for connection is among the many reasons so many people working in and around farming look forward to the EcoFarm Conference, a yearly gathering at the Asilomar State Beach & Conference Grounds in Monterey, California’s “refuge by the sea.”

Since it was founded in 1981, EcoFarm Conference has become an annual destination for people passionate about farming and food rooted in respect and care for the earth and its inhabitants. What started out as a 50-person meeting that helped to birth the organic farming movement is now known as one of the most influential events in the world of sustainable agriculture, attracting over 1,500 attendees each year.

Elders and young alike come to be inspired by visionary keynote speakers, explore the expo, and choose from over 60 skill-building workshops on subjects like business and marketing; soils and production; equity, health, and food justice; and policy and advocacy, with many presentations in Spanish.

In addition, there are endless networking opportunities—a great reason to gather in-person after nearly three years of limited contact during the Covid pandemic. Enjoy wine and cider tastings, an intergenerational mixer, the beloved seed swap, and the awards banquet. Join a discussion group or meet one-on-one with experts to get your specific business questions answered. There’s plenty of time to slow down, share meals, and take in the beach sunsets while exchanging seeds and farming insights.

Registration is still open to attend and sign up for main conference workshops and various pre-conference events and farm tours. This annual event is a powerful opportunity to once again experience human connection with a diverse group of like-minded, collaborative farmers and foodies.
