Picnic in the Park
Food Day is an annual event intended to inspire changes in our diet and action to solve food-related problems. Hosts at this autumn picnic at Hayward’s historic Meek Estate include the Ashland Cherryland Food Policy Council, Hayward Seed Lending Library, Project EAT, and other community partners. A highlight of the day is the East Bay Local Seeds meeting at 1:30, where there will be an important discussion on the development of a network to grow, harvest, and share open-pollinated and heirloom seeds among area seed libraries. Also enjoy cider-making using a hand-crank apple cider press, pumpkin painting, culinary demos, and information on seed saving, gardening, 4-H clubs, and more. Bring a dish to share or your own picnic lunch. Info: audrey@acfpc.org
