ON THE COVER
The persimmon tree and yellow-rumped warbler on our cover—as well as the Tompkins King apple tree and hooded oriole eyeing some satsumas above—are etchings by Santa Cruz–based artist Stephanie Zeller Martin. Her illustrations can also be found in her husband Orin Martin’s award-winning book, Fruit Trees for Every Garden: An Organic Approach. Orin Martin is a mentor of Sharon Zo, who is profiled in our story “In Awe of an Apple”(opens in new tab) on page 32 of this issue.
