Portraits of Our Community During Covid-19

COVID: A collection of images taken of those directly affected by Covid-19 or its economic repercussions

On April 2 in her series of portraits, photographer Clara Rice visited Oakland’s Sequoia Diner.

“Sequoia Diner has become a new-ish staple of the Laurel District in East Oakland, a big part due to the hard work and friendly service of owner Sequoia Vennari. A few weeks ago when we spoke she was still doing well, but then everything turned into full takeout protocol. She’s now at 25% of her staff and 30% of her usual takeout business. Her one silver lining is spending much more time these days with her toddler!”

Rice invites suggestions for upcoming portraits: “If you or anyone you know is directly impacted/involved and may be interested in a portrait, please email me at clara(at)clararice(dot)com.”
