In the short film Wrestling the Angel, artist Ann Arnold shares her work and insight as she faces a life-threatening crisis. The film delves into Arnold’s creative process and artistic journey, drawing on visual metaphors from Aesop’s fables and the story of Jacob wrestling with the angel. Rich in metaphor and meaning, her paintings speak to the resilience of the human spirit.

Arnold has illustrated books by Alice Waters, who notes, “This film captures Ann in her element, speaking eloquently, and plainly, about many of the values she and I both share—beauty, simplicity, a love of nature, a love of food, consideration, the intricacies (and humanity) of the creative process and the transformational power of art.”

You can attend a special screening of this poetic 23-minute documentary at the Berkeley Public Library on November 2 at 10:30am. Ann Arnold and filmmakers Jonathan Villet and Fiona McDougall (OneWorldSF.com) will participate in a Q&A session after the show.
