K Ruby’s 25th Annual Winter Open House: Dec 14 & 15 in Berkeley
Way back in the early years of Edible East Bay, we met the incredibly industrious K. Ruby Blume when she was just starting to create an urban farm in Oakland as the home for her Institute of Urban Homesteading. Years went by and her longing for real farmland took her to Oregon, where she created Faerie Road Farm. Each year since she moved away, Ruby comes back with the fruits of her labors in a bounty of handmade gift items to sell at a holiday social, where the day offers tastings, shopping, and serendipitous encounters with neighbors and friends. “I already have 15 cases of jam from summer fruit harvests stacked and ready and I’m dreaming up new creations,” said Blume in September. “I will have new garden seed kits, yummy mustards, pickles, new fancy soap designs, Viking wool collars, egg ornaments, lanterns, ceramic art tiles, dishes, ink kits, yarn, caramels, caramel sauce, mead and other libations, and so much more.”
