ABOUT OUR COVER ARTIST
The cover art this issue (as well as here and in the Eggplant article) is by Celia Wedding, a native Californian who creates drawings, prints, and paintings in watercolor, oil, and acrylic from her studio in Oakland. Over the years, Celia’s work has been exhibited in a variety of solo and group shows in California, Connecticut, and New York. Among her many awards is the first place she won in 2010 at “West Coast Prints” organized by the Pacific Art League in Palo Alto, California.
Speaking about her work Celia says:
“The fruits and flowers, stems and leaves of edible plants are so beautifully varied in color and shape. The wonderful detail of a petal or flower or fruit, the emotional response it brings from the heart and belly is something an artist can dig into. Our lives depend on these products of farm and garden to nourish us and enhance the form of our existence. What a pleasure they are to draw and paint.
“And then comes the world of birds . . . I have always been fascinated by them. They live in a separate place among us: their own parallel universe. If you pay attention you realize this. I am amazed by the resilience and strength of their almost weightless bodies.”
