Remembering Les Blank
Shari Arai DeBoer is a third-generation Japanese-American artist, a painter, printmaker, and book artist. Her work examines the beauty in everyday objects and life. Overlaid with her personal perspective, it creates visual stories. Flower buds and fresh foods are two of Shari’s favorite subjects, in life and in her artwork. When asked to visualize artwork for this cover, Shari immediately thought of bright green vegetables and dark-blue indigo textiles. The watercolor painting above left, Break Time, was commissioned by Jules Thin Crust Pizza and is on view at the recently opened restaurant in Rockridge. Shari’s work also can be seen locally at Collector art shop in Berkeley and at East Bay Open Studios in early June. sharideboer.com
